Remember writing your Christmas list? Remember how you thought you could ask for anything and Santa would bring it? Such a magical time of year. I remember waiting for Christmas to come around as soon as it was over. As the nights started to draw in and the summer disappeared, you knew Christmas was around the corner.
Christmas in the Middle East (well Doha) is a bit different. Carrefour is full of tacky Christmas decorations, but other than that, signs of Christmas are rare. It does get cooler, but coming from the UK, 25 degrees isn't cool enough to feel like Christmas. Of course, there are things to do at the hotels like gingerbread house decorating, carol singing and meeting Santa, but Santa from the Philippines is not the Santa I know. 5 star Christmas lunches and bubbly brunch is an amazing experience, but nothing beats a home cooked roast turkey (which I need to learn how to cook).
For Oliver, he knows no difference. Sometimes it's hot, sometimes it's cold, but for me, the magic of Christmas is cold and involves copius amounts of mulled wine, lots of Christmas cheer throughout the month and a little snow - if we're lucky!
Merry Christmas and enjoy the season!
